To create a content type follow the below steps:
Steps-1:
Open SharePoint 2010 site then click on Site Actions and then Site Settings.
Steps-2:
In the Site Settings page, Under Galleries section click on Site content types as shown in the figure below:

The above step will open the site content type page. In that page click on Create. This will open the create content type page.
Step-4:
In that page give a Name, Description. Select a parent content type from the drop down and if you want to put in a new group then you can give a name. and then click on OK as shown in the figure below:
Step-5:
Now from the site content type settings page. Click on Advanced settings as shown in the figure below:
Step-6:
In the Advanced settings page Upload a new document template and click on Ok as shown in the figure below:
Step-7:
On the Quick Launch, click Shared Documents. Click the Library tab, and then click Library Settings in the Settings group on the Ribbon to display the Document Library Settings page.
In the General Settings section, click Advanced settings, and in the Content Types section, under Allow management of content types, select Yes. Scroll down the page and click OK.
In the Content Types section, click Add from existing site content types. The Add Content Types page is displayed.
Then from the custom content type select MyCustomContentType that we have created.
Now when u upload the content type will show.
To create a content type follow the below steps:
